Collaboration season is back again and this time we are greeted with a highly anticipated drop from Virgil Abloh, the designer of Off-White.
Nike Headquarters, United States- Virgil, known for his avantegarde streetwear aesthetic, will be teaming up with Nike and tennis star Serena Williams for the upcoming 50th edition of the US Open.
With prices ranging from $130 to $900, the appropriately dubbed “Queen Collection” will include a jacket, bag, performance dress, and three sneaker styles: The NikeCourt Flare 2, The Nike Air Max 97 and the Nike Blazer Mid SW. All items will be available for purchase later this month at select Nike locations.
When crafting the collection Virgil referred to Serena as his muse, stating “I was trying to embody her spirit and bring something compelling and fresh to tennis.” “So the dress is feminine, but combines her aggression. It's partially revealing. It's asymmetrical. It has a sort of ballerina-esque silhouette to symbolise her grace. It's not about bells and whistles and tricks. It's just about it living on the body, and expressing Serena’s spirit with each swing of the racket.”
Abloh has collaborated with Nike in the past and is also the newly appointed artistic director of Louis Vuitton's men's wear. Serena has been a Nike brand ambassador for 15 years.
