Ralph Lauren says no to mohair

Another fashion brand has chosen to go down the animal-friendly road: Ralph Lauren recently announced that it will no longer use mohair in its creations.

Rumors are that the brand had been the subject of much pressure from the animal-friendly group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), a nonprofit organization leading the fight for better animal welfare.

According to the nonprofit, close to 300 brands and retailers have said no to mohair, among them H&M, Zara, Gap, Ann Taylor, ASOS, Brooks Brothers and Diane von Furstenberg.

"Seeing as there is no current legitimate standard on animal welfare in the mohair supply chain, we have decided to eliminate its use in our future products", a Ralph Lauren spokesman stated.
